Gang Wars in El Salvador
El Salvador is a country drowning in violence and chaos and home of the highest murder rate in Central America. Gangs operate with near impunity in many areas of the country, and often hold more authority than the government itself. Government forces are overwhelmed by the violence and brutality of these gangs. The 2 major gangs in the country, MS-13 and 18th street, came to a truce, brokered by church and government representatives, in 2012. That truce was broken in March 2014, and was immediately followed by record violence on levels not seen in over a decade. Both MS-13 and 18th street have membership numbering nearly 70,000, spread between El Salvador and the streets of the US. Now, in February 2015, gang leadership has come together in private, without the involvement of the government, in an attempt to reestablish the truce, and maybe even broker a lasting and powerful alliance. Both gangs are well known for their greed and brutality, but all of their members follow a strict and twisted code of honor. In this crisis committee we will come together as members of both these gangs to establish a comprehensive agreement, while dealing with continual crisis updates that must also be addressed by the delegates. At this crucial turning point in the history of El Salvador and its gangs, the possibilities are limitless. The future of El Salvador is in your hands.
